Re: The Leonardo last supper parable. Whilst it makes for a great story it is not true. http://www.snopes.com/glurge/lastsupp.htm for the evidence. You may as well use the wonderfully written story of The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. Why not explore the more intersting mysteries behind The Last supper such as "Why are there twelve cups on the table? Why is St. Peter cutting John the Divine/Mary Magdalene's throat with his hand? and other equally intriquing observations. Remember Truth is an elusive beast and best experienced first hand - stories may guide us to truths but experience is the best teacher.

My Mother passed away this past Tuesday. I was in NY attending my son's graduation from medical school (today is his 29th birthday) when my daughter called and told me Granny had a massive stroke and was in a coma. Granny loved I Come to The Garden Alone and we are going to sing it at her memorial in TX next week. Thank you for your website. It is absolutely awesome and comforting. My Moms favorite flower was also the rose; and she grew glorious ones;I swear she counted them every morning; She was always cold. Mom died waiting for a renal transplant at the ripe old age of 47 leaving 5 kids ranging in age from 7 to 28 years. even though 3 of us were "grown" at 24 I didn't feel grown enough to be without my mom. I received a renal transplant @48 am doing great. We all still miss her. She would sing "My Jesus I love thee" all the time.

Your website is beautiful and very inspiring. My mother also passed away (June 3, 2001) and I too miss her dearly. She was a beautiful and wonderfully made woman of God. I thank God everyday for having such a good example in my life. She also was a gardener and now I am a gardener. Yes I come to the garden alone, and I found Jesus waiting there for me. I pray that in Jesus Christ you have found peace--I did.

I was looking for this song to be part of my address on Sunday, 25th June. Thank you for the comments about your mother. I have just experienced some dark times and it is so true that when "I come to the garden alone, He walks with me and He talks with me, and he calls me His own." What a joy that is. Obviously your mother knew the compassion and care of our God. Truely He is wonderful, just the greatest! Thank you for putting the effort into preparing this page. Graham R.Lockhart

I have been looking for this "tune" which was always in my family for as long as I can remember. To my dismay I could not ind it in my hymnal (Methodist). My wife and I plan to arrange it for playing at nursing homes on harp and flute, where I am certain it will be welcome addition to our repertoire. If you can disclose a link for the sheet music, it would be most appreciated. Thanks.

A friend sent me your website, and it is truly beautiful. My Mom died in 2003 from complications of a stroke. She loved to sing this song in church. It was one of her favorites. She also loved roses, and when she died, I covered her casket with pink ones. I hope she is surrounded by them now in Heaven. I still grieve the loss of both of my parents, and always will. Thank you again for this page. I will return.

This is so beautiful. I was reading the Unity daily word today and it spoke of the song "I Come to the Garden Alone". This song is one of my favorites from my youth. Even as a child I would walk and talk with God and thought everyone did until I grew into adulthood and realized I was part of a small group. Please let me know if there are others. God bless you. This was a favorite song of a very close relative of mine too. She passed away 30 years ago but will probably never be forgotten. We had people sing this song at several funerals now, and I will probably request that it be sung at mine. I don't know if the song is acutally supposed to play here, but unfortunately, I didn't hear it. I had already played it on the piano today, however. Roses were also a favorite of the lady that I mentioned above. I strongly believe that we will all be together again in an even better life that awaits us. We just need to keep the faith.

I was with her this week, looking at a picture she embroidered several years ago - a flower and the words, "One is closer to God in a garden, than anywhere else on earth." Her favorite hymn is In the Garden. Bless you for recognizing the beauty of God's creation and taking the time to share it. Your garden looks lovely.

I love your site and hope it comes to the top every time I type in I come to the garden alone. I am giving a lesson in church tomorrow about death and the resurrection. I just hung up the phone from talking to my 84 year old aunt about how she felt when she lost loved ones at the time they passed away and how she feels now. She lost more immediate family members from "untimely" deaths than anyone I know. Her mother died when my aunt was 12. Her father died when she was about 20. Her first son died when he was 16, her second son died less than 24 hours after birth. Her husband died at age 69. She told me that at first she couldnt' believe it, but then felt an amazing loneliness, but soon, in each case, of losing her sons and spouse, friends and her faith telling her that they'd gone to a better place kept her going and that she thinks about them every day and figures they are watching over her. She told me that she will soon be giving a lesson in church about hymns as I reminded her about your song, which was sung to her husband by a dear friend many times as my uncle lay dying. She said it may be her favorite hymn and it is one of mine, but I hadn't thought about it for quite a while. Thank you ever so much for building your site! remember..."the grave hath no victory, and the sting of death is swallowed up in Christ." Mosiah 16:8

I was doing a Google search for "Closer to God in a Garden," the poem. I had just been in our backyard and grooming some plants on our back porch and felt the peace and wonder you describe that I always feel when I am around God's wonderful creations. I clicked on the link to your site thinking I would find the words to the poem, but I found much more! Thank you for the beautiful pictures and music. What a beautiful web page. I was thinking of my husband who has just been diagnosed with throat cancer and was humming this song and went on a surf which brought me here. I am sorry you lost your Mom to lung cancer. Someday we all we see our loved ones again. In Jesus, Lv  Lee

A fantastic Web Site.. Great work.. beautiful music. The most beautiful thing I have ever read and heard. Its quite ironic too, as I am in the middle of composing a poem about my mother, and after listening to that beautiful song, and reading your beautiful poem, has inspired me to further poems and listen to the songs that always remind me of my mum. She is still alive and just turned 98. She was an avid dedicated gardener too. Thank you and my God Bless you and all you know and love. Robyn

My mother too has lung cancer.
